The Power of Stories

The 38th IBBY International Congress 2022 in Putrajaya hosted a KIDLIT (Kids Literature) Illustration Exhibition with the theme "The Power of Stories." I was honoured to be invited to participate in the exhibition, alongside 18 other children's picture book illustrators, as well as other exhibitions and celebrations such as the Hans Christian Andersen Award and the IBBY Honour List.

EXHIBITION STATEMENT
Fairy tales have always been an integral part of children's lives, and they hold a special place in my heart. As a child, the first story I heard was a fairy tale, and it had a positive impact on me.

Good stories are powerful, and they light up our brains. Just a few keywords like "little girl," "grandmother," and "wolf" can instantly recall the entire story. The power of good stories is such that an image of a little girl wearing a red riding hood will immediately connect you to the famous fairy tale. We grow up hearing fairy tales and reading them into our lives, and every word and image is imprinted in our minds. That is the power of stories.
